"Winter" Round 1, 28th June 2002 Charity Golf Day Red Shield Series Friday the 28th saw the inaugural Winter round of the Golf Gurus Red Shield Appeal Golfing Series at The Golf Club at Kennedy Bay. From the Salvo's Emergency truck to a Alex Stones Group N Subaru Rally Car and a squad of Western Warriors headed by Brad Hogg there were plenty there to support the hard work of the WA Salvos.
"The Red Shield Series is designed for any corporate or individual across the state who wish to come and have a great business networking day. The Salvation Army are the benefactors of the Series. It was a perfect vehicle for the them to be able to build support relationships with the corporate world in WA, hence the Red Shield Series name" said Paul Smith of the Golf Gurus.
The Series takes part across the state from Kennedy Bay all the way south to The Sanctuary Resort on Bunbury during the year. An all year Series was built to allow for all sorts of budgeting periods and to attract a wide group of players.
"Many participants were surprised to see the attendance of so much media but these days to attract corporate sponsorships with warm and fuzzy feeling is just not enough to bring them on board. Putting together a good media package shows this is a Series run on business principles and we feel will become apart of the golfing calender for many businesses."
"The Red Shield day was great fun" said Robin Talyor captain of the winning team from the Professionals. In the spirit of the Series his team-mate Greg Cox was fined for driving two of the greens off the tee, over 340 meters in length.
Access 31 had a film crew to put players off their well-groomed games and press cameramen in plane view too. All was not lost as the On-Site Stress Management ladies on the 1st tee rubbed away any signs of frustration or embarrassment.
It was a sunny though windy day for the corporate teams including the likes of Alinta Gas, Fuji Xerox, G&R Marketing (Akai), The Professionals, Skipper Mitsubishi, Clipsal, Biomax, Fine Line Boat Charters, Dolphin Design and Drafting, Rota Moulding and Red Hot Roofing to strut their stuff.
Meadow Springs on September 20th is the date for the next Spring Round.
